Picnic and Water sports by Lake Gregory
At the centre of town lies Lake Gregory, a mini reservoir built by, and named after Sir William Gregory in 1873, during his tenure as Governor of Ceylon. Lake Gregory, or Gregory’s Lake, was originally made for the purpose of providing electricity to the town. Today, it is often the main attraction in Nuwara Eliya for its combination of recreational activities, local entertainment, picturesque views and a relaxed, family friendly atmosphere.
