Birdwatching
The avifauna of Sri Lanka is rich in diversity. There are approximately 500 species of birds found in the country, of which 33 are endemic to the island, while 216 are migrant birds that visit every winter. The Central Highlands of Sri Lanka is home to many of these birds, some of which are only found in the Hill Country, making Nuwara Eliya a special place for bird watching. Goatfell’s garden is inhabited by over 20 species of birds. Please refer to the ‘Common and Notable Birds’ book found in your room for more information on our little feathered friends. If you’d like to explore beyond the surrounds of Goatfell, a large collection of resident, endemic and migrant birds can be seen at Victoria Park, Galway’s Land National Park and Horton Plains National Park. For a more in-depth experience, we recommend being accompanied by our Naturalist, if he is available at the time. Please speak with a butler for more information.
