Within the sprawl of tea planter’s bungalows, white picket fences, strawberry patches and neatly tended hedgerows is the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club, one of the oldest golf clubs in Asia.
This quaint mix of old-world charm and modern trappings provides it with a special aura and is the essence of its attractiveness. The 18-hole course, 6399 yards long, is a testing par 71 and is made up of long, narrow fairways, bordered by rows of towering eucalyptus trees and elegant cypresses, held together by dense acacia shrubbery.
The club offers coaching lessons for beginners and includes a small area for kids to try their hand at putting. The cosy clubhouse is equipped with a billiards room and a wood-lined bar, with old pictures and tournament winner’s names suspended on the walls.
