The CARE team organised an educational field trip to UNESCO Kandy for our Eco Warriors, where they visited the Temple of the Tooth, the Peradeniya Gardens, Kandy National Museum and the Kandy City Centre Mall. This is the first time the kids have travelled to Kandy, and for most, their first trip outside of Hatton.
As part of our initiative to raise funds for urgent repairs and maintenance work at the Dunkeld School, a group of the Dunkeld school students, including our Eco Warriors who happen to attend this school, took on a tree planting project of specific seedlings which will be purchased back by Camellia Hills. The students were briefed on the species of tree seedlings, given a demonstration of the best growing techniques, and were given bags to grow the seedlings.
We have planted 150 jack fruit trees in two phases around estate houses to assist the local communities with more food security. Our Eco Warriors team helped us identify places to plant trees and were hands-on in planting each sapling. They’ll also be assisting us in monitoring the growth of each tree.
Teardrop Hotels hosted our Eco Warriors on an educational tour of the Ambewella Farm, where they got to learn the daily operation of the farm, the production process of dairy products and interact with the farm manager and even some of the animals.
Last Christmas, Teardrop Hotels set up a Wish Tree initiative across our hotels with the aim of raising funds for underserved children and their families in the communities we operate in. Through generous donations from guests and staff over the holiday season, we were able to put together thoughtful hampers for our Eco Warriors and other orphanages that we support..
In March 2024, we concluded a heartwarming collaboration with celebrated Sri Lankan born equestrian and philanthropist Mathilda Karlsson. Through the collaboration, we were able to distribute cricket bats, shoes, and track pants to the young boys of our Eco Warriors. This initiative also highlighted how hospitality and goodwill can come together to make a profound impact on society.
