Sustainability
From the very beginning sustainability and community have been at the very heart of the Teardrop story. We love this island home of ours and passionately believe in making a positive impact wherever possible. Our core beliefs sit behind everything we do and we constantly look for new ways to have a positive social and environmental impact.
Restoration and transformation
This is a great passion of ours; Saving and restoring beautiful, often abandoned, old buildings and reimagining and transforming them into inspiring fusions of old and new.
Each of our properties is totally unique and many have been saved from ruin. Heritage buildings and vintage tea bungalows were carefully chosen for their character and have been lovingly restored. Wherever possible, we preserve their original features and let their architecture inspire our contemporary interiors.
Homegrown and plastic-free
Delicious fusion cuisine will be a highlight of your stay. We grow most of our own vegetables and buy fresh-from-the-ocean seafood from local fisherman; we aim for zero food miles. To eliminate single-use plastics in our hotels, guests are given refillable water bottles in their rooms, plastic straws aren’t available and all packaging is plastic-free.
Supporting our community
We see our staff as a big family and strive to nurture and support them in every way we can. We look for local people with a natural curiosity, a dedication to hard work and a passion for success and give them the knowledge, training and mentoring to really progress and move up to senior roles within our team.
We also encourage our staff to get involved and lead our community initiatives and we have created the charitable foundation CARE (Creating a Rewarding Experience) to support local causes in the communities we work in. We’re proud to provide food, medicines and reading glasses for low-income families and have set up a program to employ young people who are keen to take their first steps into careers in the hotel industry.
