As part of our environmental initiatives, the team at Nine Skies planted 40 Kumbuk trees along a section of the Badullu Oya riverbank, in a project to mitigate soil erosion. A tree native to India and Sri Lanka, Kumbuk plays an important role in our ecosystem by affording protection and purification of riverbanks and streams through their root systems. Collaboration with the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

At Teardrop Hotels we believe in building relationships with universities, institutions, and think tanks that are addressing the sustainability challenges of the travel industry.

In June 2022, Teardrop Hotels collaborated with students from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology by providing key insights into Teardrop Hotels’ sustainability policies and initiatives. The data provided was used for the Capstone project aimed at establishing a set of flexible yet robust methodologies and KPIs to implement in Alta’s AIM (Alta Impact Method) framework, that can then be used across all its hospitality investments.

Kumu Beach Team Spruces Up Anula Wijerana Children’s Development Center

Over the course of four days in July 2023, the Kumu Beach team dedicated their efforts towards creating a positive impact at the Anula Wijerama Children Development Center in Balapitiya. The primary focus of the project was on enhancing the children’s environment and the team undertook various tasks to improve the center’s facilities. One of the key accomplishments was the construction and organisation of an outdoor study area, complete with proper lighting to facilitate a conducive learning environment. The team also worked on repairing the garden lighting system, on doorsteps and revitalised the volleyball court, providing the children with a renewed space for physical activities and recreation. The renovation of the shower area, initially built by the Kumu team in 2019, demonstrated their commitment to the sustained well-being of the center.

The project extended beyond physical improvements, encompassing team building, leadership, and recreational activities that engaged the children in meaningful ways. The day ended with a delightful garden dinner, where the children had the opportunity to witness live cooking. As a heartwarming gesture, each child received a thoughtful gift, exemplifying the team’s genuine care and consideration for their well-being.
