Our Top 5 Favourite Suites at Teardrop Hotels

25 May 2024 (Updated 25 February 2026)
By Teardrop Hotels
Our award-winning, boutique hotels are the epitome of island luxury. A total of 90 keys are made up of contemporary, stylish rooms and suites in mostly historic buildings and bungalows spread across Sri Lanka’s south coast, Colombo, and tea country. While every bedroom is crafted to evoke a powerful sense of serenity, comfort, and style, their purposefully individualistic nature means that not all suites are created equal. This guide unveils our 5 top best-loved suites across the Teardrop collection, for the most luxurious stays.
Suite 01
Mountbatten Suite with Plunge Pool
Recently hailed as possibly the best airport hotel in the world,Wallawwa is “the OG in Dutch colonial chic” to quote Singapore Editor of Wallpaper* Daven Wu. In his review, ‘Why Wallawwa in Colombo is possibly the best airport hotel in the world’, Wu explains: “the central building was originally the home of Nicholas Dias-Abeyesinghe, the area’s head chieftain under the Dutch in the 18th-century. The original rooms have since been converted into a library and sitting room, furnished with comfy sofas and books, lazily twirling ceiling fans, rattan furniture and hessian rugs.”

With 18 beautiful rooms and suites, the cherry on top of Wallawwa’s accommodation offering is the two-bedroom Mountbatten Suite, which is as generous as a private villa, boasting a sitting room and a private garden with plunge pool.

The master bedroom has a grand four-poster garden-facing bed and an ensuite bathroom with rain shower and freestanding bathtub, and its open plan design incorporates a sofa-furnished lounge. The second bedroom – furnished with queen-sized twin beds – also has its own shower room. The suite is equipped with walk-through wardrobes, cable television, retro phone, and mini bar. A blissful suite for privacy-seeking honeymooners or families.
Suite 02
The Bawa Suite
The Geoffrey Bawa Suite is the original room occupied by Geoffrey Bawa at Lunuganga Estate, a jewel in its crown of 10 very individual and unique suites. Located in the main house, The Geoffrey Bawa Suite now offers the novelty of gaining an insight into a previously closed off part of the renowned architect’s life and remains close to its original condition with very minimal changes to the space besides the installation of an air-conditioner and an upgrade of bathroom fixtures.

Bawa’s former suite is furnished with a king-sized bed, modern-day amenities, and a spacious living area adorned with a rare collection of original artworks, and a part of his personal library. The Suite opens out to a charming, private courtyard with a sitting area, while the on-suite bathroom connects to an outdoor, tropical plunge pool.
Suite 03
Tri Villa
Surrounded by lush greenery and entirely hidden from view, the Tri Villa is one of our most exceptional suites – a sanctuary so private and spacious that you feel wonderfully lost in a paradise of your own. Designed for seclusion without sacrificing style, it offers an experience that feels less like a hotel stay and more like inhabiting a beautifully considered private residence.

The villa unfolds in natural light, with generous interiors and a separate living area that creates a true sense of space. Two expansive terraces open out to uninterrupted views across Koggala Lake and the surrounding cinnamon forests, grounding the villa in its extraordinary setting. The private infinity pool is perhaps its most mesmerising feature – an architectural illusion that makes it feel as though you are swimming directly into the lake itself, a perspective that never loses its magic. Inside, the en-suite bathroom features a deep bathtub designed for long, indulgent soaks, reinforcing the villa’s sense of calm and retreat.
Suite 04
Lakeview Suite
Perched above the still waters of Castlereagh Reservoir, the ground floor Lakeview Suite at Camellia Hills is one of our most atmospheric stays. Designed to frame the landscape at every turn, it offers a front-row seat to mist-rolled mornings and golden afternoons drifting across the water. Anchored by a four-poster king-size bed, the Suite gives you the sense of classic plantation elegance, while a generous en-suite bathroom and private sitting area elevate the feeling of comfort and calm.

Large French windows draw the outdoors in, ensuring that the reservoir and surrounding tea-carpeted hills are never out of sight. Spacious yet intimate, the Lakeview Suite is a place for slow mornings with tea in hand, long soaks after scenic hikes, and quiet evenings watching the light fade over the reservoir. It embodies what Camellia Hills does so beautifully: a sense of home, elevated by setting and the serene drama of Sri Lanka’s highlands.
Suite 05
Kalkudah Suite
Located on the upper floor of the Main House at Kalkudah Beach House, the Kalkudah Suite is elevated above the shoreline and positioned for privacy, offering a seamless blend of generous space, considered design, and uninterrupted ocean views.

At its heart is a plush king-size bed dressed in soft linens – an inviting centrepiece that sets the tone for rest and restoration. The adjoining sitting area, complete with a comfortable sofa, elegant armchair, and coffee table, creates a relaxed living space perfect for slow mornings, afternoon reading, or quiet conversation as the sea breeze drifts in. Step onto your private balcony and the Indian Ocean stretches out before you. With comfortable outdoor seating and sweeping coastal views, it’s a space designed for slow sunsets and unhurried reflection.
