The Pekoe Trail is a 300-kilometer long (22-stages) curated, one-of-a-kind walk that takes you through some of the finest ecology and mountain terrain in the Central Highlands of Sri Lanka. Camellia Hills is located near stages 7 and 8 (approximately 27 kilometres) of the trail, which is renowned for its historical significance and breathtaking vistas.
Stage 7 begins deep in Sri Lanka’s tea country in Kotagala. Along the way, you’ll encounter Chrysler’s Farm Tea Factory, a colonial-era tea factory built in 1870, and Singamalai Lake which supplies all the drinking water for Hatton and its surrounding villages.
Stage 8 begins in Norwood, the gateway to the Bogawantalawa Valley which is also known as the ‘Golden Valley of Tea’. On this walk, you’ll climb up towards a ridge that separates the Bogawantalawa and Maskeliya valleys, considered amongst the most beautiful places in the tea country. From the top of this ridge, zig zag your way to Norwood Estate and enjoy sweeping views of the Maskeliya valley and catch a glimpse of Adam’s Peak from across the lake.
Treks can be self-guided or guided for an additional fee, and you’ll be provided with hiking boots, trekking poles, leech socks, insect repellent and sun hats. Along the walk, expect to see old and new tea factories, centuries old churches and Hindu landmarks amongst rolling and remote countryside. On return, we’ll have cold towels and freshly brewed Ceylon tea waiting for you.
