Shipwreck diving offers a rare chance to swim through time, where sunken vessels, some dating back to World War II, rest on the ocean floor now teeming with vibrant marine life.
Once a vital British naval stronghold during World War II, Trincomalee Harbour and its surrounding coastline witnessed a series of Japanese air raids in 1942, leaving behind wartime wrecks that today serve as beautiful dive sites.
One of the most compelling is the SS British Sergeant, a sunken British oil tanker now resting near Kayankerni Reef at a depth of 24 metres. The wreck lies in two dramatic sections, inviting experienced divers to explore its steel corridors and vast, open chambers teeming with marine life.
Tips & Inclusions: A valid diving certification from a recognised body (e.g. PADI or SSI) is required for wreck diving. This experience includes scuba gear and refreshments. If you’re new to diving, Open Water certification courses are available upon request and can be arranged.
