Minneriya National Park, Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle, is home to one of the most extraordinary natural spectacles in Asia.
Each year from July to October, as the dry season sets in, hundreds of wild elephants — sometimes as many as 300 to 450 — emerge from surrounding forests and converge at Minneriya National Park in a breathtaking event known as ‘The Gathering’.
Observing these majestic animals in their natural habitat, from playful calves to wise old matriarchs, is a profoundly moving experience, offering a rare insight into their social behaviours and migratory patterns.
Throughout the rest of the year, the herds may shift to nearby Kaudulla National Park or Hurulu Eco-Park in search of grazing and water. To ensure the best possible sightings, your safari location will be selected based on elephant movements, as advised by local wildlife authorities.
Tips & Inclusions: This experience includes a driver cum tracker and entrance ticket. Feeding or touching animals and littering in the park is not permitted.
