Home Gardens Project

Our home garden project continues with another donation of fertilizer, scotch bonnet plants, and gardening tools to ladies living in the Upper Dunkeld Division. The aim of the project is to assist women living in the hills to be more self-sufficient, gain economic independence as well giving them food security. Amid nurturing their greens, these women are growing a renewed sense of purpose, resilience, and hope, one crop at a time.

A Soft Skills Workshop by Goatfell

The Goatfell team recently concluded a workshop for 22 ladies residing in our community. The aim of the workshop is to empower more women with skills, enabling them not only with a sense of independence but self-worth. With the guidance of skilled mentors, these workshops provide a safe and nurturing environment where women can harness their talents. The workshop demonstrated how to create four different types of candles (floral, spice, scented and tea light candles) which Teardrop is committed to buy back, how to make chutneys and jams using common ingredients found in the vicinity, and how to bake a cake without the use of an oven.

Home Gardening

This initiative supports women residing in and around our properties to increase their revenue streams, giving them more financial independence and freedom to support their families. We believe empowered women are the key to transforming communities. Currently, the initiative we are focused on is the home garden initiative where we support their house gardens by donating seeds, gardening tools, organic fertiliser and assisting with crop selection. Our goal is to create a circular-based, women-led form of agriculture.

Candle Making Workshop

As part of our Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) CARE Initiative, we recently concluded a candle-making workshop at Wallawwa for a group of ladies in our community on 21 May. The goal of this workshop was to give these women training on a skillset that they can use to work from their homes and enable them to create a sustainable, income-generating opportunity within their own community. We also provided them with raw materials to get started on candle making, and we have committed to buying a specific quantity of candles each month from these ladies.
